Maher, Kathleen N. “Kate”, 92, of Julie Ann Circle, Riverside, died peacefully on November 9, 2020.
Born in Dublin, Ireland, a daughter of the late Patrick and Catherine (King) Maher, she lived in Riverside for 41 years.
Ms. Maher was a secretary at Rhode Island Hospital for 18 years before retiring in 1994.
Kathleen was a communicant of St. Martha’s Church. She led a deeply spiritual life and was always generous to many charities. She knitted scarfs for the women at the soup kitchen and enjoyed baking wedding cakes. She had an ongoing love for nature, birds and her beloved cats.
She is survived by a brother, Joseph Maher of Dublin, Ireland; two sisters, Patricia Naish also of Dublin, Ireland and Nancy McDonald of Texas. She was a devoted friend of Donna Reel, Liz McGrath and Claire Briggs and many dear relatives, friends and neighbors. She was the sister of the late Helen Whalen, Jim Maher and Paddy Maher.
Her funeral will be held on Wednesday November 18, 2020 from the W. Raymond Watson Funeral Home, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 9 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Martha’s Church, 2595 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday morning 9-10 a.m.

My dearest Katie …. She was feisty and fair! She adored her cats. What a generous help she was to my work with those who are poor and struggling at McAuley House. My heart energies go out with love to support Donna, Liz and Sally.
Katie was a true friend over a long period of time.

Kate was a loving, caring hopeful soul who always looked for an opportunity to help in any way she could. Her energy and love will truly be missed but lives on. God bless her family and friends who were always by her side! RIP Kate. Well done, good and faithful servant!
Hi everyone, I was very sorry to hear the sad news of the passing of my Lovely Aunt Kate.I have so many great memories of her, it is so hard to pick out ,just one.She menth a lot to me.She was always so kind and full of laughter and fun. Beautifully dressed with lovely painted nails.She was exactly what you would expect a, Lady to be.Because that is what She was, A Lady.I guess Heaven now has their Angle back. She will be missed, but I know she will always be in my heart……..?
Kate, with Donna, took me under her wings when I was an intern at Rhode Island Hospital in 1976. They “taught me the ropes” of how to apply my book learning and how to become a “real” doctor. Later they became local “Aunts” for our two sons. Memories of many wonderful holidays, birthdays, graduations, and other receptions. And scones! The best ever. Kate always gave us an honest opinion if she did not think our hair or glasses or clothes were up to her standard. She dragged us into a higher standard. We will miss her love, honesty, and wit.
We are very saddened to receive this sad news on the passing of my aunt Kate, thinking of her close friends Donna, Liz and Sally at this hard time for them. Kate had a very special place in our hearts, loved her warmth, kindness and that great sense of wry humour, have such fond memories of holidays spent in RI with Kate and Donna where they got to meet my family.

Kate was my eldest sister and although we did not grow up together we developed a strong bond.
She was a very caring, kind and loving sister always thinking of the welfare of others. I could never repay her for all her many kindnesses to my family over the years. She never forgot her roots even though she spent most of her life in America, she always kept in touch with her family.
I have many happy memories of the good times we had together when she came home on vacation to Ireland, may she rest in peace

It was with great sadness that I received the news of Aunt Kate’s passing this week.
Kate was an integral part of our family – and together with Donna played an immense role in our lives. Kate was a regular visitor to Ireland over the years and in our family great excitement always surrounded those visits to us. And we were very fortunate to have had the opportunity to visit her and Donna in their home in Riverside.
Kate was kind, generous and thoughtful, and had a wonderful sense of humour and style.
When we were growing up Kate was always extremely kind and thoughtful, regularly sending gifts to my siblings and I, and she always included books (and occasionally comics) for me and I credit her with my deep love of reading which I enjoy to this day.
Losing Kate is an immense sadness, but I thank God for having had her presence in my life and am grateful to have many wonderful memories of her

Kate was my Godmother and Aunt. Both her and Donna played an immense part of mine and my brother Sean and sisters Helena and Patricia growing up. Every Christmas boxes of presents arrived, toys, clothes and some very fancy candy which we couldn’t get in Ireland. It was a huge part of Christmas for us and we were very excited and grateful for it. She had a great sense of wit and fun and was incredibly kind to us. We are all heartbroken to hear of her passing and thank God that it was peaceful. Rest in peace Kate. We love you.
