Foster, Edward C. Jr., 92, formerly of Riverside, died peacefully on March 17, 2021. He was the beloved husband of the late Joyce (Possner) Foster.
Born in Providence, the son of the late Edward C. and Margaret (Mello) Foster. Ed was a life-long resident of East Providence. He wintered in Vero Beach, FL, and spent summers in Lincolnville Center, ME.
Ed was a graduate of East Providence High School. He was a member of the East Providence Police Department and worked for Narragansett Electric Company, retiring in 1984.
Ed was a charter member of St. James Lutheran Church in Barrington, RI and a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Vero Beach, FL where he was a “Gardening Angel.” He was a life member of St. Andrew’s Lodge #39. Ed was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Blue Knights #1 of RI.
He is survived by two daughters, Kristen Candon (William) of Riverside, RI and Kimberly O’Donnell (William) of Westport, MA. Four grandchildren, SSG. Bennett O’Donnell (Libby), Carlin O’Donnell, Scott Candon (Kristen), Emily Morris (Nathan), and five great grandchildren.
Due to Covid restrictions a private funeral will be held on Monday, March 22, 11:00 AM at St. James Lutheran Church, Barrington, RI. Service will be live streamed. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to Hattie Ide Chaffee Home, 200 Wampanoag Trail, East Providence, RI 02915 or Hope Health of RI, 1085 North Main St, Providence, RI 02904.

I found myself thinking about Ed recently. I worked with him on the East Providence Police Department and was a member of St. Andrews Lodge with him. I rode with him on numerous occasions and always had a lot of respect for him. May he rest in peace.

We are so sorry to hear about Edward’s passing. There was no question that he was a very special person to all who met him. I loved speaking with him at Emily and Nathan’s wedding. He has a very special spirit. He created such an incredible family. Love to you all. We are praying for you. Xo

Kim and Bill I remember running into the two of you in the Camden grocery store a few summers ago. We were so surprised to see each other. That was the beginning of spending time with all of you in Me. I had a good time spending time at the lake with your dad, you and Bill and one summer with Bennett and his family. I was alone and it meant so much to have a “family” around. I thank Ed and all of you for a lot of happy memories. Love B

I am so sorry for your loss. Eddie was a good friend of my father, Malcom Rochford. I was able to get to know him when I took Eddie and his friends from school to Briggs Beach a couple of years ago. He was a really sweet man. I know the remaining friends will miss him very much.

Dear Kris and family……I never knew your father personally, but spoke with him many times on the phone. He was always kind to me. I am sorry for your loss.
Many happy memories of Ed and Joyce as neighbors in their Florida home. My late husband and I spent many hours with them eating and drinking and just enjoying each others’ company! I know that we will meet again!
