Peter Butts, 92, of Riverside, died peacefully on October 15, 2024 at the Grace Barker Nursing Center, Warren, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Barbara A. (Hulton) Butts.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Chester A. and Althea (Behrens) Butts, he lived in Riverside for 56 years.

Mr. Butts worked as a data processor for Amica Insurance for 47 years before retiring in 1996.

A sports enthusiast, Peter enjoyed fishing and stamp collecting.

Mr. Butts was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean war.

He is survived by two sons, Peter D. Butts of Riverside and James C. Butts of Brunswick, Maine; a daughter Pamela J. Shilo of Amissville, VA and three granddaughters. He was the brother of the late Henry Butts.

His Funeral service will be held on Saturday October 19, 2024 in the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Swan Point Cemetery, Providence. Calling Hours are respectfully omitted.

  1. My deepest condolences to Pete’s family at this difficult time. Pete was my mentor at Amica, showing me the ropes on a daily basis and guiding me through late duty coverage. Pete was also an usher at my wedding and a good friend.

  2. I will always remember Pete for his awesome sense of humor as well as his charm. He was my mentor as well as a mentor to most of his teammates, one of the smartest people I know. He will be missed!

  6. My condolences to Pete’s family. I worked with him at Amica as a new hire. He was one of my mentors and a great teacher. He always made me smile and was very encouraging as I learned my way through the assembler coding process. And who could forget having lunch with him at The Friendly Tap. He was a wonderful person.

  7. Very sorry to read of Pete’s passing. We collaborated at Amica for many years until his retirement. Pete was such a sweetheart. He taught me so much about programming and was always helpful. Pete was more than a co-worker; he was my friend. I’ll miss him!
