Duarte, Avis B., 90, of Thurston Street, East Providence, died peacefully on May 16, 2023. She was the beloved wife of the late Eugene Duarte.
Born in East Providence, a daughter of the late Emile and Signe (Johnson) Perreault, she was a lifelong resident of East Providence.
Mrs. Duarte was a communicant of St. Brendan Church.
Avis’s greatest joy was being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed reading, bowling, crocheting, bingo and watching the Red Sox.
She is survived by five sons, Stephen E. Duarte of Arlington, VA, Thomas J. Duarte and his wife Kristina of Riverside, Paul R. Duarte and his wife Susan of Riverside, Eugene J. Duarte and his wife Karen of Avon, CT and John J. Duarte and his wife Donna of Preston, CT; five daughters, Susan J. Walsh of Riverside, Mary D. Avery and her husband Henry of Mattapoisett, MA, Melissa A. Phillips and her husband Wayne of Riverside, Diane M. Wetmore and her husband John of Riverside and Pamela S. Souza and her husband Adam of Middletown; twenty five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; a brother, James Perreault of Naples, FL. She was the mother of the late Michael Duarte; sister of the late Emile, Arthur and Earl Perreault; grandmother of the late Jeffrey Walsh and mother-in-law of the late Jane Hammitt.
Her Funeral will be held on Monday May 22, 2023 from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 10:15 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Brendan Church, Turner Avenue Riverside at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
Calling Hours are Sunday from 3-7p.m. Flowers are respectfully omitted. Contributions in Avis’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959 or a charity of your choice would be deeply appreciated.

Auntie Avis! I’m so sad to hear of Avis’s passing. Every memory of her from my childhood is filled with her giant smile and twinkling eyes. She was an amazing mother – always so calm and loving. My thoughts and prayers go out to Stephen, Tommy, Susan, Paul – all the Duarte family. She was a great woman I’m so proud to have known. Sending love.
