DeSisto, Joseph G., “Coach D” 91, of Anoka Avenue, Barrington, died peacefully on Monday May 30, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Mary E. (Berg) DeSisto.
A lifelong resident of Barrington, he was a son of the late John and Gilda (DiPaolo) DeSisto.

Mr. DeSisto was a Physical Education and Biology Teacher at Barrington High School for 35 years where he was the Men’s Indoor and Outdoor Track Coach. He also worked at his Family Nursery for many years and spent his retirement working at Wildflower Florist with his daughter Kathleen.

Joseph was a communicant at St. Luke Church, Holy Angels Church and the Carmelite Monastery.

Mr. DeSisto was inducted into the Barrington Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009. He enjoyed playing bocce and spending time with his loving family.

Joseph was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his children, Kim DeSisto and Denise DeSisto, both of Barrington, Ann Travers and her husband Keith of Swansea, MA, Kathleen Luther of Touisset, Tom “Del” DeSisto and his wife Emilie of Barrington, David DeSisto and his wife Jennifer of Barrington and Jason DeSisto and his wife Lisa Rose of Coventry; ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was the father of the late Peter DeSisto and MaryJo DeSisto and brother of the late Anna Integlia, Nicholas and John DeSisto.

The DeSisto family kindly requests those attending the calling hours to please wear a face mask.

Calling Hours will be held on Wednesday June 8, 2022 in the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside from 4-7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Luke Church, Washington Road, Barrington on Thursday June 9, 2022 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Contributions in Joseph’s memory to Glimmer of Hope, 10 Gateway Road, North Kingstown, RI, 02852 would be deeply appreciated.

  1. Coach D was one of my best coaches and a real mentor to me. But he was more than that- he was kind, you could talk to him- he was just a wonderful person. I can still see him when I close my eyes even after 57 years.

  19. My brother-in-law Joe was a great father figure to me all my life. I was in his and Mary’s house all the time and he and Mary-Jo were in our wedding. Lots of memories all good. RIP Joe.

  25. To the DeSisto Family, My husband Frank knew Joe well from all the Coaching they did for the Town of Barrington. I remember him from the Princess Hill days and later at Wildflower. He certainly knew his nursery business. I think he and my husband just talked about the “good old days” then we would talk plants. He was a great guy and always remembered you when he saw you around town. May you find some peace in the memories you all have. RIP Joe. Now you and Frank can talk all you want.

  27. Sincere sympathy to the De Sisto family. Coach was from my old neighborhood where my parents (Maple to Anoka) lived and my siblings and I were raised. My Dad was best friends with Joe’s Dad /Fire Chief what seemed like forever. Coach Joe was my biology teacher at BHS. My sons’ PE coach.and it goes on and on.

  32. I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Joe DeSisto.
    We were neighbors for a number of years on Brow St. and siill kept in contact after the family moved to Anoka Ave. My heart goes out to all of you at this time. He was a wonderful man. RIP Joe. ❤️?

  33. Mr DeSisto was my Biology teacher in High School..he was the most interesting teacher I had. He always made learning fun..and such a nice person.
    May he be at peace with his Heavenly Family.
