Marian B. Kostka

Date of Passing:

December 3, 2022

We are sad to announce the death of our beloved mother, Marian B. (Horton) Kostka, who passed away in the hospital on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at the age of 95. Marian grew up in the town of Rehoboth where she later raised her children and watched her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up. Marian was born on November 17, 1927, the daughter of the late Everett and Emma (Kelton) Horton and is predeceased by her husband Edward Kostka, brother Everett Horton Jr., and sisters Emily Correia, Eleanor Fisher and Francis Moore. She leaves behind her three children Joan (Burgess) O’Shea and her husband Michael of Somerset, Jacqueline Burgess-Conlon and her husband James of Rehoboth and her son James Kostka of Rehoboth; three grandchildren Joel Humes and his wife Joyce of Swansea, Erin Johnson and her husband Andrew of Rehoboth and Jaime Conlon of Rehoboth. Devoted great-grandmother to Samuel and Kellie Humes, Emma and Jake Johnson, and Jaycey Conlon all of Rehoboth. She will be sadly missed and will always hold a place in our hearts.

Marian worked at Balfour in Attleboro for over 30 years and was proud of her position as a supervisor in the enameling department. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing and reading in her spare time but could be found often walking around the block or riding her 10-speed bike well into her retirement. Marian loved attending the luncheons at the Rehoboth Council on Aging. She had recently taken a trip to the Bahamas with her granddaughters and had her first trip to Disney World at age 93.

To have known Marian was to know a true survivor with the strength of a warrior. Above all else Marian was devoted to her family; she adored watching her grandchildren grow and thrive, and she gave them and her children a lifetime of loving memories to keep in their hearts.

Calling hours will be on Tuesday, December 13th from 10am-12 noon at the W. Raymond Watson Funeral Home in Riverside, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside, Rhode Island. Her Funeral Service will be immediately following at 12 noon. Burial will follow in Thomas Cemetery, Swansea, MA.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Rehoboth Ambulance Committee at 334 Anawan Street, Rehoboth, MA 02769 or the Rehoboth Council on Aging at 27 Francis Farm Road, Rehoboth, MA 02769.

  4. Dear Joanie, Jackie and James, You mother, my godmother was very dear to me. I will remember every time she invited me to her house to spend the weekend, when I went to buy a car with her and Ed in East Providence and all the happy parties at my mother’s house. She was always so elegant and refined, a very classy lady, who left a mark on me.
Sending hugs to you, your spouses, children and grandchildren. With much love,

  5. Marian was so sweet and energetic. I will always remember her and Jim walking around the block and past the old house to stop and chat about the garden – and Ken and I visiting with her in Rehoboth and her new home in Somerset. The rose she picked out and gave us for our new home when we moved is thriving —and I will always think of her and her kindness when it blooms. We are so sorry for your loss! Heaven has a new, sweet angel…

  6. Jamie and family, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your mother and grandmother. She always had a smile on her face, such a beautiful woman and aunt she was. May she rest in peace now.

    Sadly,
Donna (Milton’s daughter) and David Lamontagne
