Thornhill, Marthe, E., 76, of Dearborn Drive, Riverside, died peacefully on Tuesday December 28, 2010 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Ralph Thornhill and the late Dr. Laurence Doyle.

Born in Boston, MA, a daughter of the late Edward L. and Anita L. (Grepin) Gugger, she lived in Riverside for the past 15 years.

Mrs. Thornhill was a nursery school teacher at the Barrington Early Childhood Center for 18 years before retiring in 2004.

Marthe was a graduate of Barrington College Class of 1956. She was an active volunteer teacher in the South Swansea Baptist Church vacation bible school and the child evangelism programs. She enjoyed teaching, listening to hymns and classical music.

Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter; Carol J. Siino of Bristol, a son; Bradford M. Doyle of Barrington, a brother; Edward Gugger of Wilmington, MA, two step-sons; Ralph W. Thornhill of Pawtucket and Daniel Thornhill of Acushnet, MA, two step-daughters; Cindy Blount of Barrington and Sheryl Beresford of Haymarket, VA, 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Stephen E. Doyle and step-mother of the late Mark S. Thornhill.

A private family graveside burial will be held on Friday December 31, 2010 in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Tiverton. A memorial service celebrating the life of Marthe will be held on Saturday January 8, 2011 at the at the South Swansea Baptist Church, 25 Church Street, Swansea, MA at 11 am.
