Abatecola, Michael A., 84, of Hilton Avenue, Riverside, died peacefully on September 9, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of MaryAnne (Pezzullo) Abatecola.

Born in East Providence, a son of the late Antonio and Adelina (DiFonzo) Abatecola, he lived in Riverside for 59 years.

Mr. Abatecola was a carpenter for Local #94 for 30 years before retiring in 1988.

Michael was a member of the East Providence Sons of Italy and the San Antonio Society of Holy Ghost Church, Providence. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and loved dogs.

Mr. Abatecola was a United States Navy Veteran.

Besides his wife of 59 years, he is survived by a daughter, Deborah A. Russell and her husband Ronald Jr. of Rehoboth, MA; two sons, Michael P. Abatecola of East Providence and Christopher M. Abatecola and his wife Cheryl of Coventry; two brothers, John Abatecola of San Diego, CA and William Abatecola of Tucson, AZ and three grandchildren.

His funeral will be held on Friday September 13, 2019 from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 8 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Brendan Church, Turner Avenue, Riverside at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Calling hours are Friday morning 8 a.m. – 9 a.m. Flowers are respectfully omitted. Contributions in Michael’s memory to the RISPCA, 186 Amaral Street, Riverside, RI, 02915 would be deeply appreciated.

  4. Profound condolences and ultimate respect regarding my beloved brother. He had many friends and was an outstanding individual among his peers. Mike was truly blessed with honesty and projected excellent character in unison with his dedicated and compassionate wife of 60 years, Maryann, he leaves a true legacy as a father. My brother instilled a high degree of integrity to his offsprings and they will proceed accordingly. He now resides in heaven. God bless him, his forebears and surviving family. My ultimate respect to my beloved brother.

  8. Elaine and John Sirmalis. We have known Mike for many years. A very friendly person. I, John, personally have known him for nearly 80 years as a playmate across the street from my grandmas house on Hicks Street in East Providence. Good memories.

  9. Mike was a true family man .He loved having his wife Maryanne and his children and grandchildren around him , just having a good time, with good food . I will miss talking to him about life in general and the “ good old days “ May he Rest In Peace !
