Nancy L. Matthews

Nancy Lee (Otto) Matthews, 88, formerly of Adams Point Road, Barrington and Atria Bay Spring, Bay Spring Avenue, Barrington, died peacefully on November 1, 2024 at Steere House, Providence. She was the beloved wife of the late Robley Knight Matthews.
Born in Dallas, Texas, a daughter of the late Leo J. and Gertrude (Coerver) Otto, she lived in Barrington for 60 years.
Mrs. Matthews was a graduate of Ursuline Academy of Dallas and the University of St. Thomas, Houston, TX.
Nancy was a communicant of St. Luke Church, Barrington. She was a Eucharistic Minister at several local nursing homes and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for 30 years. She enjoyed spending time with her loving family.
She is survived by a son, Charles C. Matthews of Rye, NY; three daughters, Betty Jo Salmeron of Towson, MD, Gretchen Lee Parry of Baltimore, MD and Sandra Ann “Sam” Steiner of Marshfield, WI; a brother, William Otto of Austin, TX; twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Betty Brandt.
Her Funeral will be held on Monday November 11, 2024 from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 9:15 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Luke Church, Washington Road Barrington at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Forest Chapel Cemetery, Nayatt Road, Barrington.
Calling Hours are Sunday 5-7 p.m. Flowers are respectfully omitted. Contributions in Nancy’s memory to the Catholic Charity Appeal, 1 Cathedral Square, Providence, RI 02903 would be deeply appreciated.
I am a friend who got to know Nancy at daily Mass at St. Luke’s. I appreciated it when she and Rob put on a program for the Church based on a conference they attended at Steubenville OH. Rest in Peace.

Our thoughts are with you during this sad time. I have very fond memories of our time in Barrington. Nancy was very supportive of our family and I was able to join her on some of her meals on wheels deliveries and share some of her stories with her clients. This was always followed by our own lunch at a deli shared with Ginny Yund

To Betty Jo, Gretchen, Sandra & Charlie, I have fond memories of your Mom while staying at your house with Betty Jo. I remember her always being in the kitchen and smiling. May you find peace in knowing that she led a good, long life and touched many people.
