Whitaker, Robert, B., 80, of Rounds Avenue, Riverside, died peacefully at home on December 17, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Marguerite E. (Rose) Whitaker.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Walker F. and Harriet (Wood) Whitaker, he lived in Riverside most of his life.

Mr. Whitaker was a salesman for Food Industries for several years before retiring in 1996.

Robert was a 50 year communicant and usher at St. Brendan Church. He was a graduate of East Providence High School Class of 1950. A sports enthusiast, he was a devoted Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruin fan.

Mr. Whitaker was a United States Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.

Besides his wife of 54 years, he is survived by a daughter; Patricia M. Carter and her husband Kevin D. Carter of Warwick, a son; James R. Whitaker and his wife Tara Colvin-Whitaker of Riverside and five loving grandchildren; Caitlin and Christopher Carter, Caroline, Meredith and Katherine Whitaker. He was the brother of the late Elizabeth Lane.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday December 21, 2011 from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 8:45 am with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Brendan Church, Turner Avenue, Riverside at 10 am. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket.

Calling hours are Tuesday 5-8 pm. Flowers are respectfully omitted. Contributions in Robert’s memory to The Rhode Island Food Bank, 200 Niantic Avenue, Cranston, 02907 would be deeply appreciated.

  1. I just saw this. Bob was my uncle. He used to come to the Hendricken hockey games and watch my boy’s Rob and Chris Potter play. I have lived in FL for the pass 23 yrs and now I am back in Warwick I would love to meet you
